Company was formed in 1987 as a result of the merger of two oil and gas equipment giants: Baker International and the Hughes Tool Company.In 2007, the company acquired Nuovo Pignone - a supplier of turbines, compressors, pumps, static equipment and measuring systems, after which the GE Oil & Gas division was created.

The company's shares are traded under the ticker symbol BHGE on the NYSE. Since 2017, 62% of the shares are owned by General Electric.
