Evergy, an American energy holding, is the largest electric company in Kansas, serving 690,000 household, commercial and industrial consumers. The history of the holding began in 1909, when Kansas Gas and Electric (KG & E), a well-known supplier of electricity and natural resources, was founded In 1992, Kansas Gas and Electric (KG & E) and Kansas Power and Light (KPL) merged into one of the largest utility companies in the United States, serving 560,000 consumers of electricity and more than a million consumers of natural gas in three states - Westar Energy.

The current Evergy was formed as a result of the merger of Westar Energy of Topeka and Great Plains Energy of Kansas City in 2018. Holding shares are traded on the NYSE under the ticker symbol EVRG.
